Ser++
Spring 2016 Final Review
Parking Complex Plus Digital Community Center
Ser++ was designed with the idea that the traditional community center can be upgraded to meet the demands of a technologically advanced urban environment. The project lent itself to have a multilevel server farm that initially interacts with the vehicle circulation but eventually expands onto a pedestrian level. The community center exists primarily on the southern side of the levels while the parking deck hides itself from immediate view from South Street. Similar to traditional community centers, Ser++ contains various offices, tech rooms, studios, study spaces, and a cafe. As a whole, the center strives to teach the community the value of technology and allow them access to advanced equipment to learn from. With the server farm housed in the same building and by allowing the public some access to the area, the community is granted an invaluable opportunity that few have. Both adults and children alike can intimately learn the intricacies of servers and how to maintain them alongside a skilled staff. The layout of the building intentionally circulates people through the various programs in the building and exposes them to the moments of single, double, and triple height spaces both inside and outside of the glass exterior. A perforated skin encases the building at varying degrees of opacity over a glass exterior. There are several exterior spaces for potential gardens and study spaces that would incorporate outlets and internet hotspots for laptops, tablets, and other portable devices. Ser++ would be a haven for technology lovers and learners alike to experience the full potential of technology in their community.
